Book Tour - Review & Giveaway: MY INVENTED LIFE

AUTHOR: Lauren Bjorkman

SYNOPSIS: With Roz and Eva everything becomes a contest—who can snag the best role in the school play, have the cutest boyfriend, pull off the craziest prank. Still, they’re as close as sisters can be. Until Eva deletes Roz from her life like so much junk e-mail for no reason that Roz understands. Now Eva hangs out with the annoyingly petite cheerleaders, and Roz fantasizes about slipping bovine growth hormone into their Gatorade.

Roz has a suspicion about Eva. In turn, Eva taunts Roz with a dare, which leads to an act of total insanity. Drama geeks clamor for attention, Shakespearean insults fly, and Roz steals the show in Lauren Bjorkman’s hilarious debut novel.

REVIEW: MY INVENTED LIFE is about two sisters, Roz and Eva, who are both a bit similar and very different at the same time. Roz is more bold and brass, (along with being unpredictable.) Eva, on the other hand is a bit more reserved and soft spoken. The two of them are close, or at least they were. They are also very competitive - they are always having a contest between them on everything. When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! From who can pull of the worst prank to who has the hottest boyfriend to who gets the best part in the school musical.

I loved reading this book in Roz's point of view. I really enjoyed her sense of humor. Lauren Bjorkman really captured the teenage ways really well. She knew what a real teen would say or do in certain situations. I would know, after all I am one... I found this book really hilarious. Roz had me laughing the whole way. I was reading it in the library, and I just couldn't stop laughing. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. (If you ask my friends, I'm the boring normal one, while they are the crazies.) Roz...well let's just say she has a very interesting, and a bit bipolar personality. One minute she might be insulting someone, and the next showing them how much she loves or appreciates them.

Roz is a hard girl to describe properly. She is a bit dramatic, and nosy, along with smart and funny. What the heck, who am I kidding, Roz tends to be a real drama queen and loves to stick her nose into things. She has a tendency to shout out Shakespearean insults in the middle of a perfectly normal conversation. She also tends to play out how a conversation might go beforehand in her head before it happens. Only, in her head, it happens in her head, and she achieves her goal. However, in reality, she usually is let down on how she thinks the conversation is going to go. She is unique, and definitely not afraid to show off that uniqueness.

MY INVENTED LIFE is a book about teens for teens. It featured the importance of family, friendship, and love. Because at the end, even with all their competitiveness, and contests, all Roz and Eva wanted were to be friends with each other again. It showcased Roz's unique humor (who else can throw Shakespearean insults like they're nothing?) It is a book about a girl who is trying to "invent her life" and discover who she really is and where she belongs. MY INVENTED LIFE is a great book to read if you are open minded.
